About This Opportunity

A Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Fellow opportunity to join Neuropeptide Research Group led by A/Prof. Markus Muttenthaler the successful appointee will gain highly regarded exposure in; 

  • exploration of Nature's biodiversity to develop molecular probes and discover novel therapeutic leads with applications in pain, cancer, memory, autism and gastrointestinal disorders. In particular 
    • Design and synthesis of peptides, molecular probes and organic building blocks
    • Pharmacological and biophysical characterisation of molecular compounds
    • Structure-activity relationship studies of molecular probes and therapeutic leads
    • Bioassays to drive drug discovery and development efforts and target validation

This is a full-time position, however part time arrangement (20 hours or above per week) could be considered.

This position is primarily located at our picturesque St Lucia campus.

Our Ideal Candidate

A PhD in the discipline area of Synthetic Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Pharmacology or Biochemistry, in addition to demonstrated high-level communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively collaborate and will demonstrate evidence of research productivity, is essential to the role.

Demonstrated ability to conduct meaningful research in the discipline areas:

    • peptide synthesis and characterisation
    • synthetic chemistry
    • structure-activity relationship studies
    • molecular biology and pharmacology

Experience in the research areas below is desirable:

    • venom peptide drug discovery
    • medicinal chemistry and peptide drug development
    • GPCR or ion channel pharmacology (IP-1, cAMP, FLIPR)
    • peptide structure determination by NMR
    • phage display

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position for up to 12 months at Academic level A or B.

For Level A: The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $70,449.07 - $94,637.91 per annum, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $82,753.80 - $110,726.35 per annum.

For Level B: The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $99,542.79 - $118,206.74 per annum plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $116,465.07 - $138,301.88 per annum.
