Located on the St Lucia campus as part of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law, the School is home to more than 2100 domestic and international students, 14 professional staff and 60 active teaching and research staff. Its accomplished scholars claim a large share of Australia’s economics honours, national teaching awards, competitive research grants, fellowships, publications and media coverage. The School also has an established research centre and an active seminar and visitor program, providing exposure to researchers from around the world.

About This Opportunity

The Director of Education is part of the School governance structure and is integral to facilitating the delivery of an outstanding education environment for the School. In addition to driving specific strategic projects and activities connected to the education portfolio, you will take the lead on responsibilities associated with education quality assurance and improvement, student employability and student experience. Whilst upholding your relevant responsibilities in your substantive Teaching and Research or Teaching Focused academic position, your role as the Director of Education will include but is not limited to:

  • Overall responsibility for the pursuit of excellence in education and student experience, in liaison with the Head of School and Deputy Head of School.
  • Oversight of education activities in school and monitoring of education quality.
  • Lead the Academic Programs and be accountable for policy development and delivery of innovative education.
  • Actively contribute to strengthening the School's contribution to an excellent student experience.
  • Provide support for internal funding and fellowship opportunities related to education, student experience and employability.
  • Chair the School Education Committee and participate in School Leadership Team and other meetings as required.
  • Maintain personal academic standing and credibility, including the pursuit of some research or scholarship as well as some teaching.

Our Ideal Candidate

With a high-quality teaching track record and evidence of significant teaching innovation and leadership, you should demonstrate a personal academic standing and credibility appropriate to a Teaching and Research Associate Professor or to a Teaching Focused Associate Professor. Evidence of your ability to engage in successful outcome-oriented partnerships at a University and wider community level in addition to high-level communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills consistent with the University's values, are essential to the role.

Demonstrated skills in all aspects of teaching practice, including curriculum design, development of learning materials, analysis of learning needs of students, identification of appropriate approaches to teaching and development of formative and summative assessment appropriately linked to learning objectives, is integral to your success as the Director of Education. A strong appreciation of the aims of the School and the University and a willingness to contribute to the achievement of organisational goals, is sought in the appointment of the Director of Education.

What We Can Offer

The position of Director of Education is a full-time, fixed term position for 3 years; with an underlying full-time, continuing Teaching and Research or Teaching focused position at Academic level D. 

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $146,824.75 - $161,756.46 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $187,918.05 - $207,028.85. A market loading may also be included where appropriate. In addition, the position of Director of Education carries a non-superannuable management loading of $10,000 p.a..

Our Selection Process

As part of the Selection Process, applicants shortlisted for interview will be required to present a seminar and a mock lecture to members of the School community prior to their scheduled interview. Details on the seminar and on the lecture topic will be provided with adequate notice to shortlisted candidates.
