The School of Mathematics and Physics

The School of Mathematics and Physics is internationally recognised for its teaching and research excellence. Many staff members in the school have won university and national awards for their teaching innovation and excellence.  Details of the teaching and research interests of academic staff may be accessed on the School’s web site at http://www.smp.uq.edu.au/ 

The School of Mathematics and Physics has a total of 110 full-time academic staff members, and 21 professional staff who provide professional, technical and administrative support. The School teaches a comprehensive undergraduate program in science, mathematics, statistics, and physics, as well as performing service teaching for students of engineering and the life sciences. There is also an extensive postgraduate research program, which currently has more than 100 Research Higher Degree students enrolled.

About This Opportunity

The primary purpose of this position is to carry out high-quality mathematical research in the general area of Geometric and Nonlinear Analysis. Some contribution to undergraduate and/or postgraduate coursework teaching may be expected.

The position reports to the Head of School, Professor Joseph Grotowski.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

This role is a full-time position; however flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

Our Ideal Candidate

Depending on the Level applied, you will have a PhD or equivalent in mathematics or a closely related discipline. You will also have highly developed interpersonal and written communication skills.

At a Research Level A, you will have a demonstrated ability to carry out high-quality research in Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations and Geometric Evolution Equations. You will also have a demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment.

At a Research Level B, you will have a significant track record of publishing in high-quality journals, postgraduate supervisory experience and a record of applying for competitive research funding.

You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position at Research Academic Level A or B, commensurate with the relevant skills and qualifications.

At Academic Level A, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $70,729.75 - $94,637.91 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $82,752.93 - $110,726.35.

At Academic Level B, the base salary will be in the range $99,542.80 - $118,206.73, plus super of up to 17%. The total package will be in the range $116,465.07 - $138,301.87.
